Climate & Clothing

When dressing for the Woodminster Summer Musicals, think "park," not "theatre." Comfortable shoes and clothes are recommended. Since Oakland summer evenings are sometimes chilly, even if the day has been very hot, we strongly suggest bringing jackets. Some of our patrons bring blankets.

Unlike many other outdoor theater venues, we do have seats, but they are not padded. Some people bring a cushion or blanket to sit on. We strongly suggest that you bring a flashlight for after the show, as it is a park setting without street lights.

Since it’s a park, the lighting when you leave will be minimal, so be ready to use your flashlight on your cell phone while getting back to your car. Always wear casual, comfortable clothing and shoes that support your feet as you walk on various surfaces. No matter how warm it is where you live, it may be 15 degrees cooler at the amphitheater, so bring warm coats or blankets and just leave them in your car if you don’t need them.
