Woodminster Summer Musicals
July, August, and September 2009

WHEREAS, this year, Woodminster Summer Musicals begins its 43rd season of presenting Broadway musicals to over a million theatergoers in Alameda County and other counties throughout the San Francisco Bay Area; and

WHEREAS, the talent, vision and dedication of Jim and Harriet Schlader has created Woodminster Summer Musicals at the Woodminster Amphitheater in Joaquin Miller Park since 1967; and

WHEREAS, Woodminster Summer Musicals presents wholesome family entertainment to the residents of Alameda County and beyond; and

WHEREAS, Woodminster Summer Musicals’ “KIDS COME FREE” program has enabled thousands of children under the age of 16 to attend performances for free and to be exposed to the unique American art form of American musical theater; and

WHEREAS, Woodminster Summer Musicals provides performing and backstage opportunities to numerous talent local professional and amateur actors, dancers, directors, musicians, costume designers, and set designers; and

WHEREAS, Woodminster Summer Musicals performers have graced the Woodminster stage and have entertained generations of Alameda County and San Francisco Bay Area residents; and

WHEREAS, those who have served on the Woodminster Summer Musicals’ Advisory Board, those who have generously supported Woodminster Summer Musicals and those who have donated their time and energy have kept Woodminster Summer Musicals alive for 43 years; and

WHEREAS, businesses have supported Woodminster Summer Musicals during the past 43 years to ensure that this vibrant American art form remains an important part of Alameda County and the San Francisco Bay Area;

NOW THEREFORE, this Board of Supervisors, County of Alameda, State of California and the County Administrator do hereby commend the individuals and businesses that have made the production of the Woodminster Summer Musicals possible and do proclaim the months of July, August and September, 2009 to be Woodminster Summer Musicals months.
