“Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor® Dreamcoat”
Concludes Woodminster’s 41st Season September 7-16

Huge 73-Member Cast Featured In Lighthearted Family Musical
At Historic Woodminster Amphitheater in Oakland

August 24, 2007 - Oakland, CA - Producers Associates, Inc. will conclude the 2007 season of the Woodminster Summer Musicals with "Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor® Dreamcoat," playing September 7-9 and 13-16 at 8 p.m. This lighthearted, family-friendly show has catchy tunes and lots of visual fun, and is highly recommended for all ages. In this retelling of the Biblical story, Joseph is a handsome young man who is his father's favorite child, able to interpret dreams, and the bearer of an amazing coat. These facts lead Joseph's eleven brothers to become jealous and they sell him into slavery. Because of Joseph's charm and goodness, he rises through the ranks of slaves to a position of power, and is able to help his brothers and reunite his family.

“Joseph” was last produced at Woodminster in 1998, and was one of the most popular shows, in terms of ticket sales, in the 41-year history of the Woodminster Summer Musicals. Says director Joel Schlader, “Our audience has been asking for an encore for 9 years, so that’s what we’re giving them. Some of the actors who played leading roles in our last production will be playing the same roles this year. And just for fun, we’ve cast an especially large children’s chorus, 48 kids representing 11 cities around the Bay Area.”

This productions features a total cast of 73 performers, one of the largest casts in the history of the Woodminster Summer Musicals.

Woodminster shows are performed by a combination of professional (Actors Equity Association) actors and talented local non-professionals. Pierce Peter Brandt of Seattle will play the title role of Joseph, as he did in Woodminster’s 1998 production. Also reprising their roles in the earlier production will be Andrea Daniel of Castro Valley as the Narrator and Scott Grinthal of San Mateo as the Pharaoh.

"Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor® Dreamcoat" is directed by Joel Schlader, with choreography by Jody Jaron, and vocal direction by Trente Morant. The orchestra, composed of members of American Federation of Musicians, Local 6, will be conducted by Matt Hohensee.

Tickets are $23-$36, and available by phone, mail, or in person. There are discounts for children and seniors, and half price tickets are available for groups of 25 or more who make reservations in advance. Also, Woodminster offers a “Kids Come Free” program where children and teens 16 or younger can attend for free when they accompany adults paying full price. To take advantage of this program, simply present your full price adult ticket at the box office after 5:30 on the night of the performance and you will receive a child’s ticket as close to yours as possible. Or purchase your adult ticket on the night of the performance and they will be together. One adult ticket receives one free child’s ticket. If you have half-price group tickets, you may present two of them and receive one free child’s ticket. For more information about tickets and how to purchase them, visit the website or call 510-531-9597.

Producers Associates, Inc. was founded in 1967 by James and Harriet Schlader to provide affordable live summer family entertainment in the East Bay, and to foster a love of live theatre. For the last 41 years, the organization, in partnership with the Oakland Park and Rec Department, has been producing summer musicals at Woodminster Amphitheater. Today it sells more tickets per year than any other resident performing arts group in the city, and also runs a “Kids Come Free” program that gave away 2700 tickets to children and teens in 2006.
